VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and RISE Research Institutes of Sweden are leading the new Emission Free Pulping program that aims to transform pulping processes. The research program focuses on reducing biomass burning and increasing wood material yield for pulping while enhancing energy efficiency, reducing emissions, and decreasing water usage.
The Emission Free Pulping program has strong backing and a five-year commitment from leading forest industry companies like ANDRITZ, Arauco, Metsä Group, Stora Enso, Valmet, and prominent research organisations and universities in Finland and Sweden.
With initial funding of about €5 million over three years from Business Finland, the program expects to have a total budget exceeding €15 million. The Finnish public funding ensures the hiring of the first full-time scientists. The goal is to form a team of about twenty full-time researchers who will focus on advancing the consortium's research agenda.
International open collaboration is critical for the success of the program. Therefore, industry leaders and scientists globally are invited to join the consortium to set new, sustainable pulping industry standards.
