Green Line

Finland's leading green transition hub

Welcome to join the green transition! Finland's leading competence centre for green chemistry, circular economy, and clean technology is being built along the western part of the Helsinki-Espoo metro line.

The green transition competence centre will boost innovation, business, and know-how along the metro line in Espoo. The goal is to increase cooperation by strengthening Finland's position as a world-class centre of clean technology expertise, open to both domestic and foreign players.

What is Green Line?

A short metro ride brings together key players in the industry, such as:

  • Kiviruukki (in Kivenlahti): Cleantech Garden, VTT Bioruukki
  • Finnoo: EriCa Green Chemistry Park, Kemira
  • Otaniemi: Aalto University, VTT, startups and accelerators
  • Keilaniemi: Several stock-listed companies and tech companies
  • Key players from Helsinki
  • Universities of applied sciences

The area is developing rapidly, offering opportunities such as:

EriCa: The Finnoo district of Espoo will be home to EriCa, a science hub for top chemistry experts and companies with a mission to change the world.

Kiviruukki: Located at the end of the metro line, Kiviruukki strengthens Espoo's attraction, retention, and vitality by offering circular economy operators an excellent growth platform where research, jobs and learning for a sustainable future are an integral part of everyday life.

Why cooperate?

Green Line brings together international companies, startups, researchers, education institutions, and investors in the fields of chemical, circular economy, and clean technology. The business and science hub aims to attract the best green transition experts and talents globally.

  • The shared vision is to be a leader in green transition in the Nordic countries, attracting global research teams to the ecosystem.
  • Green Line is an excellent innovation environment and a platform for commercialising global solutions and sharing knowledge.

How to join?

Green Line is open to new initiatives, partners, and companies working in green chemistry, circular economy, and clean technology. Get in touch with our team to explore collaboration opportunities (see contact information below).

Green Line is part of a broader range of sustainability activities in Espoo:

The development of Kiviruukki is part of the regional cooperation with Uusimaa Circular Valley. It is also connected to the national Circular Economy Green Deal process, which seeks voluntary commitments from various actors to achieve the goals of the circular economy program by 2035.

The Mission Label, awarded by the EU in March, is proof of Espoo's extensive commitment to climate work and strengthens the position of the Espoo community as a green transition pioneer. The City of Espoo is committed to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2025.

Social and easy-going, Ossi performs best in complex projects under tight schedules. When a situation looks hopeless, Ossi starts to warm up. As a traditional Finn, business comes before pleasure to him. However, outside the office, you might find Ossi at Nuuksio's remote areas or Espoo's local breweries. And if you're lucky enough to catch him, you're sure to get the friendliest of welcomes — whoever you are.
