Espoo has the happiest citizens in all of Finland's cities, according to MunFin's study. The World Happiness Report has selected Finland as the happiest country in the world nine times in a row.
Finland has been selected as the happiest country in the world nine consecutive times by The World Happiness Report. And now Espoo takes first place in happiness among all Finnish cities in MunFin's study.
In the study, Finns say they value societal stability and nature as core building blocks of their daily lives. Freedom of choice, health, and a sense of security were also often cited as among the most important factors of happy living.
MunFin is the largest credit institution in Finland, and the only institution focused on public sector financing. MunFin conducted the survey by using a questionnaire, which 2000 Finns answered around the country.
Happiness and innovation come together in Espoo
Espoo, located just 10 minutes from Helsinki, the Finnish capital, is Finland's second-largest city and a major centre for deep tech, research, and business.
In 2025, Espoo was ranked 4th among European cities for European patent applications, while Espoo-based companies account for 41% of the total turnover of Finnish companies listed on the Helsinki Stock Exchange.
The city brings together world-class talent, leading research institutions, global companies and a highly international startup ecosystem.
Espoo's strengths include quantum technology, space, defence, energy, artificial intelligence, and green technologies. Espoo, as a major part of the Greater Helsinki region, was recently ranked 2nd among the world's leading quantum ecosystems.
