The US Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has acquired IQM's 20-qubit quantum computer, IQM Radiance, to accelerate its hybrid quantum-classical application development and integrate quantum computing with HPC infrastructure. IQM Radiance is the first quantum computer purchased by ORNL, a leading quantum computing research organisation in the US.
IQM will provide ORNL with hands-on access to cutting-edge quantum computing technology and collaborate on quantum application research. The quantum computer will be delivered by the third quarter of 2025, and it is upgradeable to higher qubit counts in the future.
The collaboration reinforces IQM's status and commitment to advancing quantum computing in the US quantum market. IQM recently also sold its first quantum computer in the Asia-Pacific region to Chungbuk National University in South Korea.
