Meet us at Web Summit 2023

Are you at Web Summit 2023? We're delighted to help you get easy access to the world-leading deep tech and sustainable solutions that Finland and Espoo offer.

Our friendly business advisors are at Web Summit in Lisbon, Portugal, on 13-16 November. Ossi Ritvos and Sini Karhunen are delighted to learn what you need and discuss collaboration opportunities you can have with Finland's leading companies, startups, and innovation players — players that can turn Finland's unique innovations into business.

Discover what Espoo's innovation ecosystem offers you below on this page, along with Mr. Ritvos's contact details.

Why Espoo?

Espoo is the innovation and R&D capital of Finland that focuses on deep tech, sustainable solutions, and radical cross-disciplinary collaboration. Espoo's innovation community generates the 6th most patents of all cities in Europe, and there are more than 400 R&D units in the city. Most of Finland's unicorns were born in Espoo. Supercell, MySQL, Rovio, and HMD Global are soon to be joined in the unicorn club by local startups like ICEYE and IQM.

What does Espoo offer you?

  • Talent pool of Europe's top university-driven startup community and the largest innovation community in the Nordics.
  • Collaboration opportunities with Finland's key deep tech R&D players can commercialise the nation's unique innovations globally.
  • A leading European quantum tech and microelectronics ecosystem.
  • The densest and most accessible startup ecosystem. Think about a place like Silicon Valley which is yet to be truly discovered.

What's hot in Espoo?

Finland's 20-qubit quantum computer was launched in Espoo a month ago, and a 50-qubit quantum computer is to be launched in 2024.

Kvanttinova is an industry-driven piloting and development facility for microelectronics and quantum technology. The unique piloting environment focuses on pre-commercial development and targets to offer a pilot line for small-volume manufacturing and scale-up. Kvanttinova contains the latest equipment for shared use as well as company-specific labs, cleanrooms, and office spaces.

Erica - Green Chemistry Park brings together international chemical companies, startups, researchers, education institutions, and investors. The Erica ecosystem is open to global research teams and aims to be the leader in green chemistry in the Nordic countries. Erica - Green Chemistry Park will be ready in summer 2024.

Espoo also ranks as one of Europe's most sustainable cities — spearheading, for example, circular economy development. Espoo aims to become carbon neutral by 2030, which opens possibilities to companies working on sustainable solutions.

Senior Business Advisor
Social and easy-going, Ossi performs best in complex projects under tight schedules. When a situation looks hopeless, Ossi starts to warm up. As a traditional Finn, business comes before pleasure to him. However, outside the office, you might find Ossi at Nuuksio's remote areas or Espoo's local breweries. And if you're lucky enough to catch him, you're sure to get the friendliest of welcomes — whoever you are.
